Newspaper Article – Sunday, September 16, 1951 Kindergarten Classes Formed 25 Years Ago Twenty-five years ago, the first kindergarten classes were organized in Winter Haven. There was only one then, now there are four. As a member of the school board, the late M.L. Hinderliter made it possible to open the kindergarten here. Mrs. Goldie S. Warren was the director, assisted by Mrs. Lillian Knoff Rittgers. Unlike everything else, the price per month of attending kindergarten, has not gone up. In fact, it is now a dollar cheaper. When the classes first started, four dollars a month were charged. Now it is three dollars. The first officers of the Mother’s Club were: Mrs. W.H. Schultz, Jr., president; Mrs. J.H. Fuller, vice president; Mrs. A.J. Richardson, secretary; and Mrs. Waldo Horton, treasurer. Enrollment for the school year of 1926-1927 was as follows: Carroll Aasheim, Richard Allen, Arbutus Abel, Ilene Brown, Leo Burton, Robert Boyce, Burnell Caldwell, Loriaine Collens, Mary Jane Cowert, Helen Carr, Mooty Chandler, Julius Colman, Gertrude Cronan, Patty Fuller, Eugene Flesher, Clara Jean Gates, Laura Marie Gates and Bendall Allen. Loice Garrett, Colleen Hallinan, Lamar Harrison, Tom Hutchinson, David Harmon. Carman Hicks, Thompson Hughes, James Humphries, Dorothy Winchester, Lillian Wall, Dorothea Weldon and Billie Ruth Wilkinson. |
